Figures and magic!

Here's some more recent work, this one's a figure painting I did today for fun and to experiment a little bit with digital markmaking, trying to get a more oily, painterly quality to my work. I had a lot of fun with the process and like how it turned out, so I'm probably gonna apply this to my next illustration. Excited!

And then here's some more good ol' constructive figure drawing; still focusing on simplifying the human form and observing it in rhythms as well as form. Learning a ton from these and they're a lot of fun to do!

And lastly here's the thumbs for an upcoming piece; this one's a faux Magic the Gathering card for our Illustration class. Super excited for this one! I'm probably going to roll with either #1 or #5. Will update this one soon!

Figures

And here's some figure studies done for our figure construction classes with Ron Lemen this semester, which I'm super stroked for. I love his animator's approach to figure drawing and I know later on he's going to get in to really solid and accurate anatomy, I feel like by the end of this semester my figure game's gonna be way above where it was. Excite!

Cheers!

Parish Sketch

Here's a quick sketch (about 1.5 hours) I did last night as a live painting at the Art Seen Alliance event that happened at the Parish down in Austin. Was a lot of fun, and my first time painting live, it's pretty thrilling to try and progress a painting and make it look good at every stage while still making adjustments that are big enough to be interesting to people. There were about 4 of us there that swapped out using the projector every half hour or so. Lots of fun!

Cultist and Cast

Then here's a cultist done for our first assignment at the TAD winter workshop, this one was directed by Jason Manley and Paul Steed, everyone gathered together and we put together a sweet post-apocalyptic universe and designed characters to fit in to it. I got the cultist character, which was right up my alley!

And lastly here's a WIP early start of a digital cast painting that I'm doing for fun, cause I love modeling form and digital is much faster than filling in a bazillion tiny holes with charcoal (which I'll do again sometime in the future). Hooray painting!

figures and characters

And then here's a pastel figuring drawing I did a while back, 3 hour pose. Had fun doing some composing for a change rather than just focusing on the construction of the figure, and I like the way a lot of the values and colors ended up working. Funtiems!

And lastly here's a WIP of a character design for the first assignment here at the workshop, a post-apocalyptic cultist. Having a lot of fun with this one and feeling like it's one of my stronger designs to date, especially in terms of narrative.

Cheers!

Royals

Happy new years, everyone! Hope you had an awesome 2011 and are prepping for an even better 2012! It's gonna be an awesome year! :)

And here's the final for that fashion design assignment I posted the WIPs of a while back for our pop culture class, I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out, though the figure drawing's a little weird I like how the design turned out.

Cheers!

Sketchdump, figures and robots

Been a while since a good ol' sketchdump and I just finished up my (rather crappy) second sketchbook! So it seems like an ample opportunity to dump le` sketches. Mostly a shenanigan of studies, cloth, figures, hands, thumbnails, a train, and some other funstuffs.
Then this here is a WIP painting for our figure painting class which I may or may not have time to finish (derp), but I like where it's going at least.

And lastly here's a painted-over 3d render of mah robot for Industrial Design class. Could probably still use some more detail, but I like how it's lookin', again may or may not have time to polish it further.

Been crazy busy with work lately, so updates may  be sparse, but I'm gonna try and get more in to studies so those should get tossed up decently often.

Have a good one!
